Update: Commercial power and internet were restored at 10:30 am.
The storms of May 1 which included tornadoes in the Tescott, Culver, and Bennington areas has knocked down a number of power lines that feed the Minneapolis 444.850, 147.225, and 444.750 repeaters and the internet service to that site. The repeaters have battery backup and there is a generator supplying power throughout today.
The internet provider does not have power at their AFC cabinets that provide internet and phone service between the CO and the repeater site. This has the following impacts:
- The RF-linked portion of K-Link is isolated from the IP-linked portion.
- The RF-Linked sites which are operational are Minneapolis, Russell, Ellsworth, Hoisington, Salina, McPherson, Sterling, Newton, Hillsboro, Norway, Miltonvale, Clay Center, Junction City, Alma, and Manhattan.
- The Internet-linked sites which are operational are Colby, Scott City, Hill City, Dodge City, Lenora, Wichita VFW, El Dorado, Topeka, Beloit, and Paola. Matfield Green is RF linked to El Dorado and it is also operational. Osborne is RF linked to Beloit and is also operational.
- The Minneapolis 444.750 YSF, P25, and DMR repeater is operational but is not linked anywhere until the power is restored.
There will be severe weather in Kansas today, especially in the eastern part of the state. We will have net control operators working both the RF linked portion and the IP-linked portions of the network that will be relaying severe weather reports to NWS.
Please do not setup an unauthorized bridge between the two segments of the system. The power is expected to be restored to the internet service sometime later this afternoon and we don’t want an unexpected feedback loop.
