Add ‘ddclient’ to an Allstar Node

Adding ‘ddclient’ to an Allstar Node.

Prerequisites:

  • A working Allstar node running the latest HamVoIP release on a Raspberry Pi 2 or 3.

Before beginning be sure to backup your Allstar installation (or clone the entire SD card) so you can easily restore your node if you screw it up.

Software Requirements

At the linux shell prompt type:
pacman -Sy ddclient

Once the package is installed, edit /etc/ddclient/ddclient.conf to match your DynDNS account settings. You may copy and paste the text below and edit to match your account settings.

## ddclient configuration file
daemon=600
# check every 600 seconds
syslog=yes
# log update msgs to syslog
mail-failure=your@email.com # Mail failed updates to user
pid=/var/run/ddclient.pid
# record PID in file.
## Detect IP with our CheckIP server
use=web, web=checkip.dyndns.com/, web-skip=’IP Address’
## DynDNS username and password here
login=#########
password=#######
## Default options
protocol=dyndns2
server=members.dyndns.org
## Dynamic DNS hosts
######.dyndns.org

Then edit the ####### entries above with your DynDNS username, password, and host name as defined by your DynDNS account.

Then, use the following bash commands to start the ddclient as a daemon:
systemctl start ddclient.service
systemctl enable ddclient.service
